Illusionaire is an RPG visual novel that takes place in an alternate world with magic. It's kind of like a Harry Potter isekai with RPG elements, fantasy creatures, and a custom magic system focused on glyphs. Starsong is the primary writer, 2D artist, and coder of Illusionaire, while Salosine produces most of the music. We don't expect to release the game for a long while. All character art and music in the game are original compositions. We are passionate about this project, but unfortunately it will continue to be on the backburners for us as we finish college.

In Illusionaire, you play as Allemande: a socially awkward student heading to a magic university to study lunar magic. You quickly learn that you are a "Sage," a type of magic caster that specializes in learning black magic. Black magic is considered taboo, and anyone with aptitude for it is immediately flagged as "potentially dangerous" and restricted from learning magic. Should any of the faculty discover your identity, you will be placed on a watchlist and given a bounty. Allemande's parents are part of a criminal organization that is frequently commissioned to steal powerful magic artifacts for special interest groups. Allemande's family raised him to join the mafia, but now that he is heading to college, he suddenly has much more control over the trajectory of his life. A core conflict in this story is whether Allemande will join his family in the mafia or choose to do something else with the black magic affinities he was born with.

The main cast of characters will often have the vibe of a D&D party. The cast includes (1) Allemande: a human male illusionist (lunar sage), (2) Rose: a human female farmer (life witch), (3) Brutus: a minotaur blacksmith (metal one-trick), and (4) Zorio: a purple dragon prince (fire sorcerer). The story will have themes of identity, self-acceptance, coming of age, betrayal, good vs. evil, justice, political intrigue, and magical realism.

Hey, thanks for checking out the visual novel! :) If there's any content you would be interested in seeing, please let me know! I really enjoy coding RPG elements and have been slowly fleshing out the magic system over time. I have some vague ideas for what sorts of themes each character will be focused on, but there is a lot of narrative flexibility since we are so early in the development process. I am almost done writing chapter one and plan to make the game pretty long.
